SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee opened the first day of the ITA National Indoor Championships in Nashville, Tenn., at Farm and Forge, but the Tigers fell to the defending National Champions and No. 1-ranked Washington University of St. Louis on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers dropped the doubles point, sending WashU into singles up 1-0.

Hanna Davis won the first set at line five, 6-2, but dropped the second set, 6-1. No. 38-ranked Lily Brecknock battled back and took the third set in a tiebreaker, 10-8. Ivy Wilson battled at three, but fell 6-3, 6-2 to Caitlin Bui.

At one, Mariella Congeni dropped the first set 6-0, but battled back in the second set, 7-5, to the No. 8-ranked singles player, Eliana Hanna. Harper High fell at two to Eleanor Archer, the 17th-ranked player, 6-2, 6-2. Lucy Lee fell at four, 6-0, 6-1 to the 46th-ranked singles player Ally Lin, and Nina Moravek defeated Lexi Barbee at six, 6-1, 6-2.

Sewanee will face the loser of No. 3 Emory and No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the 316 Tennis Center.
