Sewanee tallies five unanswered to secure 15-10 win against Wisconsin–River Falls

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sofia Bean, Ellen Lewis, and Marlin Price each recorded four points, as the Tigers opened the 2026 season with a 15-10 road victory over Wisconsin–River Falls on Saturday morning in women's lacrosse action in Eau Claire, Wis.

Bean, Lewis, and Price all finished with three goals and one assist, while Alex Kelly added three goals of her own. Sally Whitehead, Stella Birk, and Elizabeth Muller each found the back of the net once, and Kennedy Harcourt dished out a team-high three assists. Erika Bolcar added two assists in the win.

Wisconsin–River Falls struck first on a free-position goal, but Sewanee answered with five straight tallies to take early control. Bean opened the scoring for the Tigers with a free-position goal, before Birk finished a feed from Muller. Kelly followed with a free-position strike, and Harcourt set up both Muller and Lewis to give Sewanee a 5-1 advantage midway through the opening quarter.

After River Falls pulled one back, Price converted a man-up opportunity with 59 seconds left in the first. The Falcons answered with a man-up goal of their own in the final seconds, sending the Tigers into the second period with a 6-3 lead.

Lewis opened the second quarter with a goal from Bean, but River Falls rattled off four unanswered goals in just under two minutes to knot the contest at 7-7. Price regained the lead for Sewanee with another man-up tally, assisted by Harcourt, before the Falcons evened things once more. The teams went into halftime tied, 8-8.

Lewis again gave Sewanee the edge early in the third with a man-up goal from Price. After River Falls tied the game at 9-9 and later at 10-10, Whitehead finished a feed from Lewis to put the Tigers ahead. Kelly then scored a man-down goal with 15 seconds remaining in the third period, giving Sewanee an 11-10 advantage heading into the final frame.

From there, Sewanee took control, shutting out the Falcons in the fourth quarter. Bean opened the period with an unassisted goal, before Bolcar found Price on a man-up chance. Bean added her third of the game with 4:10 remaining, and Kelly sealed the win with a free-position goal at 3:15.

Defensively, Ella Townsend led the Tigers with seven caused turnovers, while Price added three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Lewis controlled a team-high four draws, and Sewanee finished with a 16-11 edge in draw controls.

In goal, Lilly Jordan and Emma Steffensen combined for the Tigers, with Steffensen earning the win after making four saves in 36:04 of action. Sewanee outshot River Falls 34-20 and held a perfect 13-for-13 mark on clears.

Sewanee returns to action on Sunday at 10 a.m., as they face Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
