Tigers drop SAA matchup at Oglethorpe

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Olivia Falvey scored 13 points and Hannah Cleveland added 11, but Oglethorpe capitalized on Sewanee turnovers to hand the Tigers a road setback in SAA women's basketball action Friday night.

Falvey paced Sewanee with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Cleveland finished with 11 points and six boards, while Janie Boyd added 10 points and seven rebounds. Brianna Keating-Rendon provided a spark off the bench with nine points on three made threes.

Sewanee (8-7, 1-3 SAA) opened the contest with a 5-0 run behind baskets from Falvey and Cleveland, but the Stormy Petrels (10-5, 2-2 SAA) responded with a 24-11 surge over the final seven minutes of the first quarter. Oglethorpe forced 11 turnovers in the period, converting them into 16 points and building a 24-16 lead after ten minutes.

Despite shooting 55.6 percent in the opening frame, the Tigers attempted only nine shots due to the turnover disparity. Oglethorpe's defensive pressure continued to shape the game in the second quarter, limiting Sewanee to three made field goals while generating 10 more turnovers. Back-to-back threes from Anna Conza and steady scoring from Keimarya Rivera helped the Petrels extend their advantage to 38-25 at halftime.

Rivera, who finished with a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds, scored six straight early in the third quarter to widen the margin. Sewanee briefly steadied behind an Eliza Everett layup and a Falvey three, but Oglethorpe countered with a 10-2 run fueled by free throws and second-chance points. The Petrels outscored the Tigers 22-16 in the period and entered the fourth leading 60-43.

Keating-Rendon's three-pointer cut the deficit to 13 with just under seven minutes remaining, but Oglethorpe quickly regained control. Sewanee shot 28.6 percent in the final quarter, while the Petrels closed the game at 50 percent from the field.

Oglethorpe placed four players in double figures, led by Rivera's 22 points and Conza's 15. The Petrels scored 37 points off turnovers and held a 32-16 advantage in the paint.

Sewanee returns to action on Sunday, traveling to Berry for an 11 a.m. matchup.
