SEWANEE, Tenn. – Savannah Gann tallied 15 kills to lead the Sewanee volleyball team to a four-set victory over Maryville, 25-12, 20-25, 25-16, 26-24, on Tuesday night in Juhan Gymnasium.

Gann, Suna Merkler, and Anna Ellison all finished in double figures, with Ellison hitting .563 with 10 kills and a block assist, while Merkler added 11 kills and a match-best five service aces. Sophia Caruso anchored the defense with 16 digs and a service ace, and Emma Meyer directed the offense with 36 assists, two aces, and three digs.

The Tigers hit .306 as a team while limiting the Scots to .197. Maryville's Kylie Wilhelmi led with 17 kills.

Sewanee dominated the opening set, swinging at a .455 clip while holding Maryville to just .048. Merkler and Gann each posted four kills, while five different Tigers – Caruso, Maria Kennedy, Meyer, Mollie White, and Merkler – contributed a service ace. Meyer also handed out nine assists, and Caruso led the defense with four digs as the Tigers pulled away late for a 25-12 win.

The Scots bounced back in the second, racing out to a 5-1 lead. Despite a late push from Sewanee, Maryville evened the match at one set apiece with a 25-20 decision. The Tigers struggled offensively, hitting just .100 with six errors, while the Scots hit .259.

Sewanee cleaned things up in the third, committing only one error and hitting .500 as a team. Gann powered the attack with six kills, while Kennedy opened the frame with an ace. After a tight start, the Tigers used a 4-1 run to gain control and closed the set on an eight-point surge, capped by three Gann kills and one from Charlotte Lee, to win 25-16.

The fourth set proved to be the closest of the night, featuring nine ties and two lead changes. Maryville built a four-point cushion midway through, but Sewanee answered with a 5-1 run to knot the score at 19. From there, the teams traded points. With the score tied at 24-24, the Scots' fourth service error of the set gave Sewanee match point, and White delivered the match-clinching kill for a 26-24 win.

The Tigers return to action Saturday morning, hosting Asbury in a doubleheader at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
