Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

McGowen’s goal lifts men’s soccer past Belhaven for eighth straight win

VESTAVIA, Ala. – Thomas McGowen scored the decisive goal in the 67th minute as Sewanee defeated Belhaven, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon in men's soccer action.

McGowen broke through after Lörinc Loboda played a long ball over the top of the Blazers' back line. The freshman collected it in stride and slotted the ball into the top-right corner, past the goalkeeper.
The win marks the Tigers' fourth in seven days, moving them to 8-0-2 on the season.

Edward Kennedy nearly opened the scoring in the first half, rising for a header off a corner in the 35th minute, but Belhaven's keeper kept it out with a quick foot save. Stokes McConnell had another quality chance for the Tigers late, breaking free for a one-on-one look in the 81st minute, but pushed his shot just wide.

Belhaven's best chance came in the 85th minute, but Kennedy delivered a defensive save at the opposite end, heading away a dangerous chance on the goal line.

Sewanee outshot the Blazers, 13-9, with a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.

The Tigers continue their road swing on Saturday, traveling to Atlanta to face another undefeated side, the No. 2-ranked Emory Eagles, at 6:30 p.m. ET / 5:30 p.m. CT.
