SEWANEE, Tenn. –
Kylene Monaghan scored a pair of first-half goals and
Khiana Roraback added a score three minutes into the second half in Sewanee's 3-0 victory over Covenant College in women's soccer action Tuesday evening in Lookout Mountain, Ga.
The Tigers (4-0-1) dominated play for much of the match, holding a 26-9 advantage in shots and finally broke through midway through the first half.
Sonia Djurasovic crossed a ball into the box near the back post that turned into a mad scramble, with
Lily Reinhardtsen's shot saved. The ball was played back to
Stella Martin just outside the box and her shot was deflected into the net by Monaghan just inside the left post in the 27
th minute.
Six minutes later
Mia Ramirez played a ball down the leftside to Monaghan, who was tackled in the box. The senior converted the PK for her third goal of the year, giving Sewanee a 2-0 advantage at the break.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Monaghan half-volleyed a goal kick forward to
Susie Whitsett, who headed the ball onto a running Roraback. Her shot from the top of the box on the right side sailed to the far post, past a diving Bronwyn Kickasola for the final goal of the match.
Kickasola finished with six saves for the Scots while two Sewanee keepers combined for four saves.
The Tigers host Greenville University this Saturday at Noon at Puett Field.
