SEWANEE, Tenn. – Catherine Crane notched the Tigers' first goal of the season as Sewanee field hockey began the 2025 campaign on the road against St. Mary's College on Saturday morning in St. Mary's City, Md., falling 4-1.

With 35 seconds left in the game, Shepard Ramsey connected with Crane to notch the first goal of the season.

Freshman goalkeeper Mairiam Hussaini made her debut in goal, recording 11 saves on 15 shots in her first career start.

The Seahawks struck early, taking a 1-0 lead just 5:30 into the match. Sewanee responded with a penalty corner, and freshman Grace Torrey fired the Tigers' first shot of the day, but St. Mary's goalkeeper Sophia Kent was there for the save.

Hussaini made two early saves in the second quarter, and freshman Patty Ariwine registered a defensive save. However, the Seahawks added another goal midway through the quarter to extend their lead.
St. Mary's scored two more goals in the third quarter, one at the 3-minute mark and the other with 41 seconds left.

In the final quarter, Crane found the back of the net to put the Tigers on board in the last seconds of the game. Eva Stoilovich registered the Tigers's other shot of the quarter, and Hussaini added two more saves to keep the Seahawks to four.

Sewanee heads to Owings Mills, Md., for its second game of the weekend with a matchup against Stevenson on Sunday at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT.
