Despriet and Carpenter advance to NCAA Doubles Quarterfinals, Earn All-American honors

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's Ansley Carpenter and Brooke Despriet advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Doubles Individual Tournament on Friday, defeating Konika Dull and Grace Truong of Skidmore in straight sets. With the victory, the duo secured All-America honors for the second time this season.

Despriet and Carpenter came out strong, cruising to a 6-1 win in the opening set. Skidmore responded in the second, jumping out to a 4-1 advantage. The Tigers rallied with four straight games to take a 5-4 lead, but the Thoroughbreds evened the set at 5-5 and again at 6-6, forcing a tiebreak.

In the breaker, Despriet and Carpenter raced out to a 5-0 lead. Skidmore clawed back to 5-2, but Sewanee reached match point at 6-2. After a brief Skidmore surge closed the gap to 6-5, Despriet held serve and forced an error to clinch the win, 6-1, 7-6 (5).

Sewanee advances to face No. 3 seed Babson in the quarterfinals on Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m. PT / 4 p.m. CT.
