Softball drops Saturday doubleheader to Rhodes

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Hannah Wilson doubled, drove in a run, and scored in the opener, while Sophie Nolen notched two hits and stole a base in game two, but Sewanee dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Rhodes, falling 6-2 in both games on Saturday at the Tiger Softball Field.

In the opener, Rhodes plated a run in the first and added tallies in the third and fifth before pushing across three in the sixth to take control. Wilson put Sewanee on the board in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double to left center, scoring Abbie Buckner, who had singled and stolen second. Maggie Barker followed with a RBI single to left, sending Wilson home, for a 6-2 game.

Buckner and Wilson each recorded a hit and scored, while Barker added an RBI. On the mound, Buckner took the loss, allowing four earned runs (six total) on seven hits in 5.2 innings.
Hannah Hollis worked the final 1.1 innings in relief, giving up one hit.

Rhodes struck late in game two, scoring six runs in the seventh to rally for a 6-2 win. Sewanee had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth after Sydney Tackett walked, advanced on a bunt, and came around to score on a single and stolen base by Nolen. Wilson's RBI bunt in the sixth made it 2-0, scoring Buckner who reached on an error and stole second.

But the Lynx erupted for six runs in their final at-bat, stringing together six hits, including a two-run single by Campbell Smith and a two-run double from Emma Caplinger to take the lead.

Hanna Hollis started and threw 4.2 shutout innings before Rhodes broke through. Reagan Huskey (4-10) took the loss in relief, giving up six earned runs over 2.1 innings.

Tackett, Nolen, and Wilson each swiped a base, and the Tigers played error-free behind Hollis before Rhodes' seventh-inning surge.

Sewanee hosts Asbury in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 12.
