Women's lacrosse collects road win over Hendrix, 19-4

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sally Herrington and Marlin Price both tallied six points as the Tigers defeated Hendrix in women's lacrosse action on the road, 19-4 on Saturday afternoon.

Price led the way with five goals and one assist, while Herrington had a standout performance with four goals, two assists, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls. Brooke Sigmon added three goals and two assists, and Erika Bolcar and Alexa Berg each finished with two goals and one assist.

Sewanee came out firing, scoring eight unanswered goals in the opening quarter while holding Hendrix without a single shot. Price and Herrington fueled the early surge, combining for five first-quarter goals. Herrington scored three times and added an assist in the opening 15 minutes, while Price netted a pair, including one on a free-position shot with just over a minute remaining in the frame. Sigmon also tallied twice in the quarter, with Elizabeth Muller and Price adding goals to make it 8-0.

The Tigers kept the pressure on in the second, answering three Hendrix goals with four of their own to take a 12-3 lead into halftime. Sigmon completed her hat trick in the second quarter, while Price, Morgan Boylan, and Bolcar added goals to keep the momentum in Sewanee's favor.

Hendrix briefly cut into the lead with a man-up goal early in the third quarter, but Sewanee responded with seven unanswered goals to close the game. Herrington completed her four-goal effort, Price added two more—including a man-down goal—and Berg, Sofia Bean, and Bolcar each found the back of the net down the stretch.

Alex Kelly controlled the midfield with a game-high nine draw controls, and Ella Townsend chipped in two assists and three ground balls.

Defensively, Sewanee stifled the Hendrix attack, limiting the Warriors to just six total shots and forcing 28 turnovers. Claire Dillard, Ella Townsend, Helen Newcomb, and Herrington led Sewanee with two caused turnovers each. The Tigers went 20-for-21 on clears and dominated the draw circle, winning 19 of 24 draws. Goalkeepers Lilly Jordan and Caroline Colbath split time in net, combining for two saves and allowing just four goals.

Sewanee wraps up the regular season at home against Centre at Noon on Friday, April 19.
