SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee women's tennis team secured a commanding 6-1 win over UC Santa Cruz on Friday at Redlands College, opening their California trip.

The Tigers set the tone in doubles play, sweeping all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Ansley Carpenter and Brooke Despriet shut out their opponents, 6-0. Emma Caldwell and Ivy Wilson followed suit with a 6-1 win at No. 2, while Mariella Congeni and Sarah Livingston closed doubles action with a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 spot.

In singles, Sewanee continued their dominance, claiming victories in five of six matches. Livingston led the charge at No. 2 singles, defeating Natalie Sprenger in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Despriet battled through a three-set thriller at No. 3, overcoming Meghana Damojipurapu 6-7(5), 6-1, 12-10 in a dramatic super tiebreak.

Congeni and Caldwell delivered decisive wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, each posting 6-2, 6-4 results. Wilson sealed the Tigers' victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.

Despite Sewanee's strong showing, UC Santa Cruz earned their lone point at No. 1 singles, where Sara Beckman defeated Carpenter 6-0, 6-3.

The Tigers face three ranked opponents in a row, starting with No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. CT (10:30 a.m. PT).
