Declan Oberlies placed sixth in the steeplechase and sophomore
Eleanor Graham finished 11
th in the 5000-meters for Sewanee track and field Friday in the first day of the Emory Thrills in the Hills in Atlanta, Ga.
The meet features teams from Divisions I, II and III as well as NAIA and is hosted by Emory University.
Oberlies completed the 3000-meter steeplechase in 10:18.11, the best finish for either the men or women on Friday and eighth-best in program history in his first attempt at the event.
Graham was 11
th in the 5000 in 20:48.95 while three women finished in the Top 20 in the 400-meter hurdles, with senior
Jocelyn Covaney placing 12
th in 1:12.13, followed by freshman
Emory Rhodes in 15
th (1:14.25) and junior
Erin Graffeo in 18
th (1:16.09).
Freshman
Parker Tallman placed 14
th in the 1500-meters in 4:02.83, improving to the fourth-best time in program history. Ethan Kline, in his first-ever track meet, posted a time of 22.57 in the 200-meters, fourth-best in school history. Freshman
Jacob Heilpern and senior
Jenkins Darbney registered times of 23.70 and 24.62, respectively, in the 200.
In the field events for the men, junior
Gavin Potter finished 19
th in the javelin with a mark of 130-feet, 7-inches while junior
Lukus White was 24
th (112-5). In the discus sophomore
Stevie Mack placed 25
th (102-9) and junior
Brayden Owens placed 27
th (100-2) and in the hammer throw, Potter finished 26
th (110-3) and White was 29
th (101-10).
For the women in the field events, junior
Cydney Wright finished 14
th with a mark of 101-feet, 11-inches and freshman
Hannah Cleveland placed 20
th (86-6).
