Tigers move to 10-0 with midweek win over Augustana

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Elizabeth Muller recorded six points on three goals and three assists as the Sewanee women's lacrosse team defeated Augustana, 15-5, on Tuesday night.

Marlin Price also notched a hat trick and an assist, while Sally Herrington added three goals.

Defensively, Ella Townsend led the Tigers with three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Claire Dillard forced two turnovers and picked up two ground balls, while Helen Newcomb and Kennedy Harcourt each collected three ground balls. Jessie Salisbury and Claire Saverino added two apiece.

Alex Kelly dominated the draw with nine controls, while Brooke Sigmon contributed three.

Sewanee set the tone early, as Price opened the scoring just 45 seconds into play. The Tigers then struck three times in a one-minute span—Harcourt found the net first, followed by Muller off a Harcourt assist, and Price making it a 4-0 game.

The offensive surge continued with Muller assisting Herrington before Sigmon scored just 10 seconds after winning the draw. Sigmon then connected with Herrington for Sewanee's seventh goal of the game. Dillard's caused turnover and ground ball set up Price's third goal before Townsend's ground ball led to Alexa Berg's first. Berg then found Muller, giving the Tigers a commanding 10-goal lead.

Muller opened the second quarter with a goal off a Boylan assist. Augustana got on the board with a strike from Jackie McNair, but Herrington responded off a feed from Sigmon. Price then found Erika Bolcar for a goal with 36 seconds left in the first half, extending the lead to 13-1.

The Vikings converted a free-position shot in the third quarter and added two more in the fourth before Boylan halted their run with a goal off a Muller assist. Muller then set up Caroline Stutz for a tally, making it 15-4. Augustana added a late goal with 14 seconds remaining for the final 15-5 scoreline.

Sewanee outshot Augustana 25-9 and allowed just three shots on goal. The Tigers were a perfect 12-for-12 on clears and won 16 of 21 draw controls.

Sewanee returns to action on Saturday, hosting Rhodes in its first home conference game at noon.
