SEWANEE, Tenn. –
Abbie Buckner recorded three hits and reached base five times and
Hannah Wilson drove in a pair of runs, but Millsaps College scored six runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth in a 12-6 win over Sewanee, taking the series in softball action Sunday in Jackson, Miss.
The Tigers fell behind 3-0 before scoring five times in the top of the fourth, including a two-run double by Wilson and RBI singles from
Maggie Barker and
Ansley Giffin. Another run came across on a wild pitch.
The Majors answered with a six-run bottom of the fourth that included a two-run single by Brynn Arena and RBI hits from Ella Morgan Sears, Kodi Jimmie and Kirsten Gilchrist as well as a sacrifice fly by Alli Nolen.
Taylor Gonzales drove in a run with a single while the other two runs came across on a wild pitch and a bases loaded walk in the three-run fifth inning for Millsaps.

Reagen Huskey and Giffin all collected two hits for the Tigers, who stranded 12 baserunners in the loss. Huskey suffered the loss, giving up nine runs on 11 hits in three innings.
Hailey Peterson picked up the win for Millsaps, tossing 3.1 innings of relief, scattering six hits and allowing one unearned run.
Sewanee left the bases loaded in the top of the first after a leadoff walk to Buckner. Barker was hit with two outs and Cain walked before Giffin popped out to end the threat.
Sears belted a solo homer to leadoff the bottom of the first for the Majors and Peterson singled before an RBI triple from Alanna Vasquez.
The Tigers loaded the bases again in the second inning after singles by Nolen, Huskey (bunt single) and Buckner, but Parker grounded into a fielder's choice and Wilson popped up.
Arena singled with one out and Hannah Briscoe followed with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning, giving Millsaps a 3-0 edge.
In the fourth inning Nolen led off with a double and Buckner walked with one out. Pinch-runner Sadie Meachum moved up on a wild pitch and Buckner stole second before Wilson's two-out, two-run double to leftcenter.
Barker singled to center, plating Wilson, and Cain followed with a double to right, chasing Vasquez from the game in the circle. Barker scored on a wild pitch and Giffin's single to the leftside pushed across Cain for a 5-3 Sewanee advantage.
Millsaps answered in the bottom of the inning, starting with a single by Kadence Cannon and an RBI double from Sears. Peterson walked and Vasquez grounded to the pitcher, but Huskey's throws to third was errant, loading the bases.
Jimmie singled to right, scoring a run and chasing Huskey from the circle. Nolen plated a run with a sac fly and Gilchrist pushed across another with a single. Arena then singled to leftcenter, scoring two more runs for a 9-5 Majors lead.
The Tigers tried to answer in the fifth thanks to leadoff singles from Huskey and Buckner, with
Madilyn Parker's sacrifice bunt moving the runners to second and third. Huskey scored on a passed ball but Wilson lined out to second and Barker grounded out to end the inning with Sewanee still trailing, 9-6.
Sears led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and Peterson walked before Vasquez was hit, loading the bases. Two runners came across on wild pitches and a two-out RBI single by Gonzales pushed the Millsaps advantage to 12-6.
Sewanee returns home next weekend for a three-game series against Rhodes College, beginning an eight-game homestand.
