SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee track and field team put together a solid showing over the weekend, highlighted by multiple personal bests and top finishes across sprints, middle-distance, and field events.
Saturday Results
The Tigers saw a trio of competitors in the men's 100m, with Holmes (11.72),
Jacob Heilpern (11.74), and
Jackson Knoll (11.83) finishing back-to-back in 37th, 38th, and 39th, respectively. On the women's side, AJ Shirak (13.56) and
Grace Potter (15.52) placed 17th and 26th.
Journey Morrison led the Tigers in the 100m hurdles, finishing fourth in 15.59, and marks Sewanee's second fastest time ever in the event. Emory Rhodes placed 10th, clocking in at 16.89, and good for seventh overall in the Tigers record books.
The 200m saw more personal bests, as Knoll ran 23.52 and Heilpern posted a 23.91. Holmes finished in 23.89. Morrison ran 27.35, registering another top-10 time in Sewanee's records, while Shirak (28.20), and Jocelyn Covaney (29.58) rounded out the women's 200m performances.
In the 400m, Brandon Christ (55.09) and Jenkins Darbney (57.09) both set personal records, placing 27th and 30th. The women's 400m saw Laney Kalsu lead the Tigers in 12th place (1:03.62), followed by Abigail Armstrong (15th), Page Wells (17th), and Blanton (18th).
In the 1500m, Tallman came in 17th with a time of 4:03.52, another 5th-best overall time for Sewanee. Eleanor Graham, on the women's side, ran a 5:42.71. Declan Oberlies ran the 5000m with a time of 16:36.84.
In field events, Cydney Wright finished 12th in the discus (91-4), while Hannah Cleveland placed 15th (86-9). Potter finished 10th in the high jump (4-3.25) and added a 20th-place finish in the long jump. Owens placed 18th in the shot put with a mark of 34-9.5. Elliott Allen recorded a third-place finish in the pole vault clearing 12.47 feet, 8th overall in Sewanee's records.
Friday Results
Parker Tallman set a new personal record in the men's 800m, clocking 1:56.73 for 21st place, while
Henry Zanone finished in 2:23.11. Tallman's time is also good for fifth all-time in Sewanee's records. On the women's side,
Page Wells also recorded a personal best, running 2:31.22 to place 24th, while
Josie Blanton crossed the line in 3:08.55 for 36th.
In the men's 200m, Jimmy Holmes recorded a time of 23.89.
In field events, freshman Brayden Owens placed 19th in the hammer throw (90-6), and Stephen Goetze secured a 12th-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 117-1.
Relay Performances
Sewanee's 4x100m women's relay team of Shirak, Rhodes, Covaney, and Morrison placed fifth in 52.43. The men's 4x100m relay team (Heilpern, Holmes, Knoll, and
Lane Gamble) finished seventh in 44.10.
In the men's 4x400m relay, Knoll, Gamble, Holmes, and Heilpern clocked 3:31.17 to place fifth, while Shirak, Kalsu, Rhodes, and Armstrong ran a 4:21.46, for the women.
Sewanee will return to action next weekend as they travel to Atlanta, Ga. for the Emory Thrills in the Hills two-day event starting on Friday, March 28.
