SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee women's basketball will travel to Berry College this Sunday for a 2 p.m. ET contest in the quarterfinals of the SAA Championships, as announced Monday by the league office.
The Tigers tied for fifth in the regular season standings but lost a tiebreaker with Rhodes College, leaving Sewanee sixth in the standings for seeding purposes in the conference tournament. Berry is the No. 3 seed in the seven-team event and will host the sixth-seeded Tigers.
Berry defeated Sewanee, 76-32, at Berry in the league opener for both teams on January 9. The Tigers shot 19 percent from the field in the game overall, including 3-of-27 from 3-point range. Sewanee won the second meeting at home, 55-54, on February 7, with freshmen
Hannah Cleveland and
Zoe Sedo combining for 27 points and 12 rebounds.
Cleveland made one free throw with 0.5 seconds remaining, capping a 13-5 run to end the game for the Tigers. Sewanee scored 10 straight points over a two-minute stretch to take a late lead and Cleveland's foul shot provided the game-winning point.
Sewanee lost in double overtime at Rhodes last season in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.
