Collins breaks 22-year old school record as Tigers open indoor season at Commoore Challange

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee sent five members of its indoor track and field team to compete at the Vanderbilt Commodore Challenge on Saturday in Nashville, Tenn., with the Tigers posting several top-10 finishes and a new program record.

In the 5,000 meters, Jack Collins delivered one of the day's highlights with a ninth-place finish in 15:25.06, setting a new school record in his first collegiate indoor meet. The previous record was a 22-year-old record set in 2003.

Christian Myers turned in a strong performance in the mile, finishing ninth overall in 4:30.46—a time that now ranks sixth all-time in Sewanee history.

In the field events, Sam Leonard tied for ninth in the high jump after clearing 1.80 meters.

Freshman Gracie Schmidt opened her collegiate career with a 45.95 in the 300 meters, placing fifth in her heat.

The Tigers officially open their season on Jan. 18 at the KMS Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
