Tigers sweep UT Southern in dual meet

SEWANEE, Tenn. –  Sewanee's swimming and diving teams dominated in a dual meet against the University of Tennessee Southern on Friday evening in the Fowler Center, collecting multiple sweeps and more than 30 top-three finishes across the competition.

The Tigers opened the meet with a victory on the women's side in the 400 Medley Relay, as Natalia Evans, Eleanor Bishop, Sarah Beth Roady, and McKenna Reed touched first in 4:17.06. The men followed with a sweep in the same event, with Sewanee's B relay of Connor Young, Naeem Mangum, Josh Kim, and Henry Lindeman III winning in 3:42.79, followed closely by Sewanee's A relay of Tyler Foster, Winston McKenzie, Ryder Griffin, and Carter Nabors in 3:44.20.

Distance events continued the momentum. Mary Sigman won the women's 1,000 Freestyle in 11:56.59, while Jon Brettschneider claimed the men's race with a time of 10:43.25.

In the 200 Freestyle, Ella Deitch took first in 2:04.44 with Adelina Willett finishing second. Sewanee's women then swept the 50 Freestyle, led by Ada Digby in 24.97, followed by Audrey Francell, Natalia Evans, and Samantha Denman. Andrew Olsen won the men's 50 free in 21.58, with Carter Nabors and Eric Jurkovic finishing third and fourth.

Sewanee swept the 200 Individual Medley on the women's side, as Caroline Johnston won in 2:20.90, followed by Roady and Grace Gearhart. Mangum and Kim went one-two in the men's IM, stopping the clock in 2:05.67 and 2:09.70, respectively.

On the boards, Jonah Kearns earned NCAA-qualifying scores in both diving events, posting a 269.78 on the 3-meter and a 290.18 on the 1-meter. Lily Stooksbury swept the women's diving competition, winning the 1-meter with 134.48 and the 3-meter with 121.20.

Deitch also captured the 200 Butterfly in 2:22.46, with Gearhart taking second. In the 100 Freestyle, Francell and Digby went one-two with times of 55.10 and 57.39, while Nabors won the men's race in 48.21.

Sewanee swept the 200 Backstroke, as Johnston won the women's event in 2:20.07 and Olsen took the men's in 1:55.18. In the 500 Freestyle, Roady (5:35.84) and Griffin (5:02.29) earned victories for the Tigers.

The meet concluded with strong relay performances. The women's A 200 Free Relay of Francell, Denman, Digby, and Reed posted a time of 1:43.09, while the B relay of Johnston, Willett, Vidal, and Gearhart finished in 1:48.82.

Sewanee heads to Lexington, Ky., tomorrow to face Transylvania and Midway in a double-dual meet, hosted by the Pioneers.
