Women's soccer falls in SAA Semifinals

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Despite controlling possession and generating the majority of scoring chances, Sewanee fell 1-0 to Rhodes in the semifinals of the SAA Women's Soccer Tournament on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers outshot the Lynx 15-4, including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal, and earned eight corner kicks in the match. However, a late Rhodes goal proved to be the difference.

Rhodes broke through in the 73rd minute, as a long ball into the box connected with the head of Sophia Rall, who placed it into the back of the net for the decisive goal.

Sewanee opened the match on the front foot, earning five corners and four shots in the first 25 minutes while holding Rhodes without an attempt. The Tigers continued to dictate play in the second half, firing 11 shots to the Lynx's two. Rhodes goalkeeper Olivia Barfield made two key saves in the half, and the Lynx back line cleared two Sewanee efforts off the goal line to preserve the lead.

Sewanee concludes its season at 10-3-4.
