Women’s soccer falls 1-0 in home finale

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Centre scored in the first 20 minutes and Sewanee was unable to answer in a 1-0 loss in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

Centre notched an early goal off a corner, the ball hit off a Sewanee defender, finding the feet of Tessa Miles, who found the back of the net in the 17th minute.

Sonia Djurasovic recorded the Tigers best chance of the match off a corner kick from Stella Martin. Djurasovic sailed a shot from jut outside the box on the rightside, but Centre goalkeeper Madeline Redmon punched it away in the 75th minute.

Centre beat the Tigers to nearly every loose ball and did not allow to Sewanee to keep possession in the offensive end for most of the match. The Colonels outshot the Tigers, 9-7.

With the loss, Sewanee drops out of the top two seeds and a bye in the first round and will play Thursday in the quarterfinals in Memphis, Tenn.
