Volleyball falls to Centre in four

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Anna Ellison tied a season-high 13 kills, but the Tigers fell to Centre in volleyball action on Saturday afternoon in four sets inside Alumni Gymnasium. 

Ellison led the Tigers with 13 kills on a .375 hitting percentage while adding four blocks. Savannah Gann followed with 12 kills, four digs, and a block, and Suna Merkler tallied nine kills, four digs, and two block assists. Setter Emma Meyer posted 33 assists, five digs, and two aces, while Sophia Caruso led the back row with 13 digs and an ace.

After Centre took the opening frame 25-14, Sewanee responded in the second with one of its most efficient offensive sets of the afternoon, hitting .323 with 13 kills and just three errors. Ellison and Gann combined for eight kills in the set, while Meyer added a pair of aces and guided the Tigers to a 25-21 win to even the match.

The Colonels regained control in the third, hitting .412 as a team to retake the lead, 2-1. Sewanee kept the fourth close early behind kills from Ellison, Merkler, and Sydney Bixby, but Centre closed on a 7-2 run to secure the match.

Sewanee finished with 39 kills, four service aces, and eight team blocks, while Centre hit .289 with 53 kills and 10 aces.

The Tigers move to 9-8 overall and 3-4 in SAA play and will continue their Kentucky road trip Sunday with a match at Spalding.
