Tigers blank Transylvania 9-0 to celebrate 50 Years of Sewanee Field Hockey

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Catherine Crane, Mary Blair Tankard, and Keegan Southall each scored twice as Sewanee rolled to a 9-0 victory over Transylvania on Saturday afternoon at Puett Field, celebrating 50 years of Sewanee Field Hockey.

The Tigers wasted no time getting on the board, as Crane opened the scoring just three minutes into the contest with a shot into the corner of the cage. Southall doubled the lead later in the first period with a strike from the top of the circle.

Early in the second, Southall found Caroline Bridges open in front of the cage to make it 3-0 heading into halftime.

Sewanee continued to dominate in the third quarter, netting three goals in quick succession. Natalie BeVier started the surge after inserting a penalty corner and finishing the play off a pass from Shepard Ramsey. Moments later, Ramsey went coast-to-coast for another goal just 21 seconds later, and Crane added her second of the day two minutes after that. Southall tallied her second goal of the afternoon late in the period to stretch the lead to 7-0.Tankard capped off the scoring in the fourth, adding two goals to secure the 9-0 final.

The Tigers outshot the Pioneers 44-0, including 23 shots on goal, and earned 18 penalty corners in a dominant performance from start to finish. 

The Tigers return to action on Monday at 4 p.m. against Meredith College at Puett Field.
