Stoilovich's late goal not enough, Tigers fall to Marian

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Eva Stoilovich scored and Kennedy Harcourt registered a defensive save, but the Tigers fell to Marian 2-1 on Sunday morning in field hockey action at Puett Field.

All three goals came in the final period. Marian struck first in the 48th minute as Shaelyn Klassen capitalized on a rebound, finding the back of the cage for the game's opening goal.

The Sabres extended their lead four minutes later, converting a penalty stroke that slipped just past the pad of Sewanee goalkeeper Miriam Hussaini.

The Tigers responded quickly, earning a corner in the 53rd minute. Eva Stoilovich tipped in a cross from Molly Haskell to cut the deficit to one with just under seven minutes to play.

Sewanee had one final opportunity with 17 seconds remaining, earning another corner. Natalie BeVier sent the insert to Shepard Ramsey at the top of the circle, and Ramsey fired a rocket on target, but Marian goalkeeper Emilee Clarey made the save to preserve the win for the Sabres.

Harcourt helped keep Marian off the board early with a defensive save in the first period, while Hussaini added another stop to halt an initial offensive push from the visitors.

Hussaini finished with five saves, while Clarey posted eight in goal for Marian. The game was evenly matched, with Sewanee outshooting the Sabres 13-12 and holding a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal.

The Tigers travel to Mary Washington for their final regular-season game before heading to Wisconsin for the Collegiate Field Hockey Conference Championships.
