Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

White, Rasheed, and McConnell power Sewanee past Oglethorpe, 3-0

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Grayson White tallied a goal in the opening five minutes, while Isaac Rasheed and Stokes McConnell added second-half scores as the Sewanee men's soccer team defeated Oglethorpe, 3-0, on Friday night at Puett Field.

White put the Tigers on the board early. After drawing a foul, he connected on a sequence that began with an Edward Kennedy free kick. Kennedy found Boady Lloyd in the box, who played the ball to White, and the junior finished out of the air with his left foot to give Sewanee an early 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, the Tigers extended their lead after a strong defensive effort from Sam McMurry, who intercepted an Oglethorpe attack in Sewanee's defensive third to start a transition opportunity. McMurry found Jonah Cooker, who connected with Lörinc Loboda near the top of the box. Loboda's quick touch found Rasheed inside the area, and his shot deflected past the keeper to make it 2-0.

With just over six minutes remaining, Loboda drew a foul in the box to earn Sewanee's 11th penalty kick of the season. McConnell stepped up and converted from the spot, firing into the bottom corner to seal the 3-0 victory.

The Tigers dominated possession throughout the match, outshooting the Petrels 21-2, including a 12-1 advantage in shots on target. Sewanee also held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Nathan Vanhoeve earned the shutout with one save in 90 minutes of action, while Oglethorpe's Sebastian Lewis recorded nine stops.

The win snaps a four-game losing streak to Oglethorpe. Sewanee (10-3-3, 2-2-1) will return to action on Sunday, hosting Berry College at 3:30 p.m. at Puett Field.
