Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Djurasovic, Reinhardtsen power send Tigers past Belhaven, 2-0

VESTAVIA, Ala. – Sophomore defender Sonia Djurasovic scored her first career goal, and Lily Reinhardtsen added another as the Sewanee women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Belhaven on Tuesday afternoon in Vestavia, Ala.

The Tigers (8-1-3, 2-0-2) controlled possession throughout the match, spending much of the afternoon in the Blazers' (10-4-3, 5-1-1) defensive third. Sewanee outshot Belhaven 14-2 overall and 6-2 on goal, while earning six corners to the Blazers' one.

Sewanee nearly struck in the opening minutes, as Kylene Monaghan fired a shot that was saved by the Belhaven keeper, and the rebound attempt was cleared off the line by a defender.

In the 33rd minute, Monaghan drew a foul about 50 yards out, setting up a free kick for Stella Martin, whose service found the head of Djurasovic for the opening goal — the first of her collegiate career.

With just under three minutes left in the first half, the Tigers doubled their lead. Lacey Carder sent a long ball forward that connected with Reinhardtsen, who beat the keeper and buried the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Sewanee continued to create chances in the second half, but efforts from Susie Whitsett and Cassis Yappen missed the frame. Belhaven keeper Addi Roberts finished with four saves, while Emilee Scott played the first 78 minutes in goal for the Tigers before Avery Kievit came on to close out the match, recording one save.

Sewanee returns home for its final three games of the regular season, beginning this weekend with matchups against Oglethorpe and Berry.
