SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Tigers opened up Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CFHC) play on Saturday afternoon, facing Rhodes, but the Tigers dropped a 2-0 decision at Puett Field.

Rhodes (3-5, 1-2) came out aggressively, firing three shots in the opening two minutes of play. Goalkeeper Miriam Hussaini stood tall for Sewanee (6-6, 0-1), making back-to-back saves on shots from Alder Dickey, while the Tigers' defense blocked another attempt to keep the game scoreless early.

After a scoreless first quarter, Rhodes broke through just under four minutes into the second as Dickey lifted a high shot over Hussaini's shoulder to make it 1-0. The Lynx doubled their lead in the 42nd minute when Maria Zaporozhski scored off a cross from Dickey.

Sewanee's best opportunity came late in the third period when the Tigers earned their lone penalty corner of the day. Natalie BeVier inserted to Shepard Ramsey and received the return pass for a shot that was turned away by the Rhodes keeper, while Molly Haskell's follow-up attempt was blocked.

Catherine Crane led the Tigers with three shots on goal, and BeVier added one. Hussaini collected three saves on five shots faced.

Sewanee will travel to Danville, Ky. for another CFHC matchup against Centre on Saturday with an 11 am CT, Noon ET start.
