SEWANEE, Tenn. – Alexandra Schoener notched a goal and an assist, but the Tigers fell to Wittenberg, 4-2, in a competitive field hockey matchup on Sunday morning in Springfield, Ohio.
Wittenberg took an early lead with a goal in the opening three minutes, but Schoener responded quickly, leveling the score just four minutes later. The hosts regained the lead right before halftime and extended it early in the second half. Catherine Crane kept Sewanee within striking distance, scoring off a Schoener assist to cut the deficit to one. However, Wittenberg's Devyn Groves completed her hat trick to secure the win for the home team.
Wittenberg outshot Sewanee 17-9, with nine shots on target to the Tigers' six. Claire Damare recorded five saves in goal for Sewanee, while Schoener led the offense with four shots. Crane added one shot and one goal.
The Tigers will host their first game this upcoming weekend against DePauw and Roanoke on Friday and Sunday at Puett Field.
