Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey narrowly defeated by St. Mary's

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's field hockey team faced a hard-fought contest against St. Mary's College of Maryland on Sunday, Sept. 1, ultimately falling 1-0.

Both teams showcased strong defensive efforts throughout the game, making scoring opportunities hard to come by. Sewanee's defense was led by goalies Claire Damare and Taylor Klesel, who split their time in goal. Damare collected three saves, and freshman Kylie Carter registered her second defensive save of the season, nine minutes into the game, robbing Seahawks's Charlotte Horn of a goal.

The lone goal of the game came from St. Mary's in the last minutes of the first quarter from Charlotte Horn off of a penalty corner.

The Tigers struggled to generate scoring chances on the offense but remained organized on the defensive end. St. Mary's took nine shots with five on goal.

The Tigers are on the road again next weekend, heading to Earlham and Wittenberg to continue their non-conference play.
