Women's soccer opens campaign with draw against Westfield State

Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee women's soccer team opened their 2024 season with a strong performance against Westfield State in the Maryville Fall Classic on Friday night. Despite dominating much of the match, the Tigers were unable to break the deadlock, resulting in a 0-0 draw.

Sewanee controlled the game with an impressive 20 shots, including eight on target. However, the Westfield State defense, led by goalkeeper Julia Robak, held firm, with Robak making eight critical saves to preserve the scoreless tie. On the other side, Sewanee's defense was rock solid, limiting the Owls to just six shots and only one on goal, which was comfortably saved by Tigers' goalkeeper Leah Atkins.

The Tigers kept up the pressure throughout, registering 11 shots in the first half and nine more in the second half, while also earning four corner kicks. Brianna Fee led the offensive charge for Sewanee with eight shots, three of them on goal. Kylene Monaghan and Cassis Yappen added four shots each, while Mia Ramirez contributed two.

The Tigers look to build on their strong showing as they take on Bridgewater College in the second game of the Maryville Fall Classic on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. CT.
