Cross country teams open season with strong showings at Mountainside Stride

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's cross country teams kicked off their 2024 season with performances at the Mountainside Stride meet in Chattanooga, Tenn., hosted by Covenant College.

The women's team claimed third place out of six teams, scoring 105 points. Allison Haworth led the Tigers, finishing sixth overall with a time of 25:19.5. Lou Bullock and Sam Ude followed closely, securing 12th and 13th places, respectively, to round out Sewanee's top three.

On the men's side, freshman Declan Oberlies made an immediate impact, finishing ninth to lead the Tigers to a fourth-place finish. Fellow freshman Parker Tallman came in 13th, while junior Sam Leonard secured 25th place to complete Sewanee's top trio.

Dalton State and Tennessee Wesleyan led the women's and men's divisions, respectively. The Tigers look to build on this strong start as the season progresses.
