Tigers blank Concordia Wisconsin in round one of the NCAA tournament

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Sewanee's women's tennis team defeated Concordia Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday in St. Louis, Mo. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center. 

The Tigers took a 3-0 lead after doubles, as Nicole Nowak and Mariella Congeni won at line three, 8-1. Ansley Carpenter and Sarah Livingston defeated Sofia Buhr and Mallory Moen at line two, 8-2, and Katherine Petty and Brooke Despriet collected an 8-6 win at one. 

In singles, Sewanee got out to a quick start as they won the first set at lines two through six, only dropping eight total games across all courts. Ivy Wilson, at line six was the first to finish as she dropped just one game, defeating Peyton Morgan 6-1, 6-0.

At line three, Mariella Congeni sent the Tigers into round two of the NCAA tournament as she clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 result. Livingston, Nowak, and Caldwell were up 4-1 in the second set at the clinch and the matches were finished. At line one, Carpenter was at five all in the first set. 

Sewanee will face No. 22 Kenyon tomorrow, Thursday, May 10 at 2 p.m.
