Tigers outlast No. 22 Kenyon to move into the NCAA Round of 16

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Ansley Carpenter came from behind to win a three-set battle at line three singles to clinch the match for the Tigers against No. 22 Kenyon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament hosted at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo.

Sewanee collected only one of the three doubles points at Brooke Despriet and Katherine Petty posted an 8-5 win at one doubles. However, the Tigers dropped the doubles point at lines two and three, putting them into singles, behind 1-2.

Kenyon made it a 3-1 match as Allaire Berl won at line two against Despriet. However, Petty brought the match back to one point as she came back from losing the first set 3-6, and won the next two sets, 6-2, 6-1. Petty defeated Eleni Lazaridou, at line one, who is currently the 30th-ranked singles player in the country.

Sarah Livingston tied the match at three points apiece as she picked up a 6-1, 7-5 match at line four. Nicole Nowak won the first set at line six, but Lalasa Nagireddy came back to win the next two sets and give Kenyon the lead with a, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 decision.

Mariella Congeni pulled out two tight tiebreakers to win a straight-sets battle at line five. Congeni defeated Ana Brand 7-6 (3), 7-6 (6) to tie the match at four all with the decision coming down to Carpenter at line three.

Carpenter lost the first set 4-6, but came back to win the second set 7-5, and took the deciding set 6-4 to win the match for Sewanee and send the Tigers into the round of 16.
