Tigers fall to Hendrix 9-8 in SAA Tournament elimination game

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Charlie Teel, John Bagwell, and Will Yarboro collected two hits a piece and Yarboro added three RBIs, as the Tigers tacked on runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, but left nine on base as Hendrix held Sewanee off for a 9-8 win to eliminate the Tigers in SAA play. 

Sewanee overcame a 5-0 deficit after the first five innings to get back in the game after notching a four-spot in the top of the sixth inning. Jadon Fetrow got the inning started with a single to center field before stealing second. Charlie Teel drove in Fetrow on an RBI single to right field. Teel advanced on a wild pitch and Bagwell was walked for two on with no outs. Herndon was hit by the pitch for the second time in the game to induce a bases loaded with no outs. Hendrix pitcher Bryson Bales struck Jack Roode out before Yarboro collected a two-RBI single down the left-field line, Bagwell and Teel scored as Herndon took two bags on his way to third. Blake Pou was hit by a pitch for another bases-loaded scenario for the Tigers, this time with one out. Mike Lewishall hit a sacrifice fly to right field as Herndon plated the Tigers' fifth run. 

With two outs in the seventh, the Tigers got things started as Bagwell doubled to right center before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Herndon drove Bagwell in on an RBI single to left. Roode singled to right field advancing Herndon to third and an RBI single from Yarboro collected Sewanee's sixth run as Herndon came home. 

Again with two out and two on in the top of the eighth, another single to right center from Bagwell plated Luke Short, but Sewanee was unable to collect any more runs, stranding two on base. 

Taj Donald tossed 4.2 innings in a start for Sewanee, giving up five runs on eight hits, Joey Crews came in to close out the sixth inning for the Tigers before Henry Shield worked three innings for the Tigers with three strikeouts and one walk, allowing only one earned run on three hits. 

Bales tossed five scoreless innings for the Warriors and went on to complete seven innings with nine strikeouts giving up six runs on eight hits. 

Hendrix plated two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning after a two-out single sent two Warriors home. The Warriors tallied runs in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, collecting one, two, and three respectively. A sacrifice fly collected their run in the fourth, a two-RBI single to right field scored two in the fifth, and an error and two singles collected Hendrix's three runs in the sixth. 

The Tigers finished the season with one of their best performances in the SAA conference tournament in program history.
