Despriet and Petty take down the No. 2 seed to advance in the NCAA Individual Championships

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Brooke Despriet and Katherine Petty took down the Fall National Champions in the No. 2 seeded University of Chicago doubles team of Rena Lin and Oliwia Mikos in three sets.
 
Despriet and Petty had a slow start to the match as they went down 0-3, but took a deuce point to get back in the match for a 1-3 score. The Tigers carried the momentum as they broke their opponent's at love to take the first set 6-3.
 
The Maroons started strong in the second set and regained the momentum and went back up 4-0 in the second set. Petty held her serve in the second set as the Tigers took their first game of the second set for a 1-4 score. However, the University of Chicago took the next two games to force a third set.
 
The Tigers brought the energy to start the third set, as they took the first game, not dropping a point, to start the set with a break. Despriet and Petty lost just three points in the next two games, to get out to a 3-0 lead. The Maroons broke back to take their first game of the final set and a 3-1 score.
 
However, the Tigers did not let the Maroons gain any momentum as they broke right back, winning a deciding deuce point to go up 4-1. In the next game, Sewanee was down 15-40 in the game but won three points in a row to collect another deuce point and a 5-1 lead. The two seeds were not done yet as they held their serve in the next game to force the Tigers to serve for the match.
 
Petty was serving for the match but the University of Chicago went up 40-15 in the game and had two opportunities to break and win the match. However, Petty and Despriet were not done yet as they came back from behind to force another deuce point that they were on top of again, to upset the No. 2 seed for the second year in a row and advance in the NCAA Individual National Championships.
 
The Tigers will face Amherst tomorrow, with time TBD, due to impending weather.
