Tigers fall to No. 5 Emory in the NCAA round of 16

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's men's tennis team fell in the round of 16 to Emory University on Sunday, May 12 in Lexington, Va. 5-2. 

The Tigers fell in two of the three doubles points as Gil Weston and Talman Ramsey picked up the point at line three doubles with an 8-3 win. At line one, Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund lost to Brandon Cohen and Ryan Glanville 8-4. Cohen and Glanville are ranked 19th in the country and fifth in the region. At line two, Peyton Erck and Andre-Remi Jakobi fell to the 10th-ranked team in the nation and the first-ranked team in the nation, 8-5. 

At line one singles, the number one and number two players in the region had a showdown. Theron ranked 4th nationally and first regionally, got the best of Dean Kamenev, the second-ranked player in the region and 8th nationally, 6-1, 6-4. 

The Eagles collected their three remaining points in singles as Emilio Van Cotthem defeated Henry Hyden at six. Christian Liew, ranked 49th in the country and seventh in the region, defeated Talman Ramsey, 6-4, 6-0 at line five, and Emory clinched the match at line four singles, as Justin Ealdman bested Gil Weston 6-0, 6-4. 

At line two, Peyton Erck, ranked 19th in the region, had won the first set 7-5, and was up in the second 3-1 against Emory's Nolan Shah, ranked 13th in the region. At three, Quinn Wicklund had lost the first set 7-5 to Glanville, who is ranked 14th in the region, but was up in the second set, 4-1. 

Sewanee's doubles team of Theron and Wicklund will compete for an individual national championship in doubles, as Theron will also compete in singles at the Dwight Davis Center in St. Louis, Mo. on May 25-27.
