Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Sewanee defeats Hendrix at home, 18-6

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Devon Root tallied five points with three goals and two assists and Charles Moran collected four points off of two goals and two assists as the Tigers collected their fourth conference win of the season against Hendrix on Friday night in Sewanee, 18-6. 

Manoli Loupassi tallied the first goal of the game with a behind-the-back, unassisted goal. Hendrix answered three minutes later for a tie game. 

The Tigers then went on a five-goal unanswered streak started by Phelps Thomas. A faceoff win from Drew Perun gave the Tigers the ball as Griffin Peterson tallied his first of the game with 11 seconds left in the first. 

Niko Maheras opened the second with an assist from Devon Root, Peterson forced a turnover and then tallied his second. A faceoff win from Perun gave the Tigers possession as Hawkins Schnabel connected with Charles Moran for a 6-1 Sewanee lead. 

Maximus LaMendola tallied his second point with a goal to give Hendrix their second goal of the day. 

The Tigers then scored 10 unanswered goals, five to end the first half, and five at the start of the third quarter. Root registered a hat trick, Niko Maheras tallied two, JM DuPree, Moran, Jake Cohen, Brady Cole, and Sage Cookerly posted Sewanee's other goals in their streak. 

LaMendola tallied two to end the third quarter cutting Sewanee's lead to 12. 

Both the Tigers and the Warriors tallied two in the final quarter, but the Tigers secured the Friday night win 18-6. 

Schnabel and Will Kennedy collected Sewanee's last two goals. 

Defensively, Perun led the Tigers with nine ground balls as he was 14-of-19 from X. Jack Selner followed with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. 

Sewanee will host their last regular season game at home against Rhodes on Sunday at noon as they will celebrate their seniors for their dedication on and off the field.
