Game Recap: Softball |

Softball defeats Centre but falls to Berry in day two of the SAA Conference Tournament

SEWANEE, Tenn. – A three-run home run in the bottom of the first from Hannah Wilson, backing up a lights-out performance from Reagen Huskey in the circle sent the Tigers past the Colonels 3-2 for the second time in SAA Softball Championship play in the first game of the day.

The Tigers lost the second contest Saturday to fifth-ranked Berry College to end their season.

In the opener, Huskey retired the first 12 batters in order and didn't allow a hit until the top of the fifth inning. Huskey scattered five hits, not allowing any earned runs with no walks and three strikeouts. The freshman stranded six runners.

Zoe Crockett reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the first and a single from Sydney Tackett led to two on with one out. A fly out to right field from Maggie Barket advanced Crockett to third and Tackett stole second on the next at-bat. Wilson homered to left field collecting three RBIs, and three runs for the Tigers.

Centre collected their first run of the day in the top of the sixth off of a Sewanee error. They tacked another on in the top of the seventh off an error, but a pop-out to second base ended the game with the tying run stranded for Centre and another Sewanee win.

In the second game, the Vikings collected three runs in the first before Ansley Giffin came in to pitch and stranded three on base. Berry extended their lead in the top of the third as they tacked two more runs on before Huskey came back to pitch. With bases loaded, a double from Morgan Frye plated three runs before she came home herself off of a Sewanee error.

In the bottom of the fifth, Jenny Gamez collected the Tiger's lone hit for the day off a single to second base, but a pop-out to second base from Abbie Buckner ended the game.

Berry will advance to the SAA Championship series to be played on Friday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4.
