Women's lacrosse falls in SAA semifinals against Rhodes

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Emma Burns collected six points and Sally Herrington recorded three goals, but the Tigers fell in the semifinals of the SAA women's lacrosse tournament to Rhodes, the number one seed. 

Rhodes collected the first goal of the day and did not let up, recording nine goals in the first quarter. 

Herrington registered the Tiger's first goal of the day with an assist from Burns. Burns collected Sewanee's second off a free position shot, and Burns found Herrington for their third goal of the quarter. 

The Lynx tacked on the first goal of the second quarter before Elizabeth Muller was fouled and collected a free-position goal for the Tigers. However, the Lynx again had an answer and found the back of the net 40 seconds later for their 11th goal of the game. 

A caused turnover by Burns led to her second goal of the day. Rhodes ended the half recording two back-to-back unanswered goals to maintain their lead. 

Chloe Parker extended their unanswered goals tallying the first of the second half for Rhodes. 

Herrington connected on a man-up free position shot for the Tigers. The Lynx tacked on four unanswered goals before Burns registered a goal with one second left remaining in the quarter for Sewanee, for her 45th goal of the season. 

Muller posted one of the only two goals scored in the final quarter. Her goal came off an assist from Burns. With 9:15 on the clock, Rhodes tacked on the final goal of the SAA semifinals, capitalizing on a man-up opportunity. 

Rhodes will host the finals of the SAA tournament next Sunday at Noon CT against Centre.
