Sewanee blanks Berry and defeats Wallace State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's women's tennis program collected two wins as they played two matches on Saturday. They faced off against Wallace State in Sewanee at 10 a.m. and Berry College in Rome, Ga. at 1 p.m. ET. 

Against Wallace State, Sewanee picked up the first two doubles as Emma Caldwell and Ivy Wilson collected an 8-2 win at line one before Madeline Towning and Carolyn Reid collected an 8-4 win at line two. At three, Eliza Dieck and Tessa Shackelford lost in a tiebreaker, 8-7. 

Towning, at line four collected a 6-1, 6-1 win in under an hour for a 3-1 Sewanee lead. Dieck finished next as she won the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 and did not drop a game in the second set for a 6-0 win. Shackelford at line six, clinched the match for the Tigers, collecting a 6-2, 6-3 win. 

At line three, Reid recorded a 6-4, 6-3 win. Wilson finished next at line two with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Caldwell fell at line one in a tight match as they lost the first set in a tie break, 6-7 and fell in the second 4-6. 

Against Berry, Sewanee collected their third conference sweep for a 9-0 win. The Tigers have not dropped a match in conference play yet. 

At line one, Brooke Despriet and Ansley Carpenter recorded an 8-5 win. Sarah Livingston and CiCi Hardin, at line two defeated their opponents 8-3. At line three, Nicole Nowak and Mariella Congeni did not drop a game for an 8-0 win. 

At line one, Despriet defeated her opponent, Lauren Masteller, 6-3, 6-1. Nowak, at line five also picked up a 3 and 1 one. Carpenter, at line two, had a closer match, but defeated her opponent,  6-3, 7-5. 

Livingston, playing three singles, dropped just one game in the first set for a 6-1 win. Her opponent rallied in the second, but Livingston recorded a 6-4 second set for the win. Congeni, at line four, dropped just three games in the match, all coming in the first set 6-3, before posting a 6-0 second set. At line six, Hardin registered a win over Angelle Thornton 6-2, 6-3. 

The Tigers travel to Atlanta, Ga. tomorrow, to face Oglethorpe at Noon ET.
