Sewanee falls to No.1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the road

Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee women's tennis season opened up their spring break as they faced the reigning national champions and No. 1 Claremont Mudd Scripps on Friday evening in Claremont, Ca. 

In doubles, the Tigers had two close matches as Katherine Petty and Brooke Despriet at No. 1 and Ansley Carpenter and Sarah Livingston at No. 2 as both doubles teams were down a break and fell, 8-5. Sewanee went into singles down, 3-0. 

In singles, CMS continued to control the matches as they won all singles matches. The top three singles players for CMS are ranked top 40 and above in singles in the country. At No. 3 Carpenter had the closest match of the day as she fell to the 36th-ranked player in the country, Ella Brissett, 6-4, 6-4. At No. 1, Petty fell to the No. 2 ranked player in the country, and at No. 2, Despriet fell to the No. 21 ranked player, 6-4, 6-2. 

Sewanee continues their spring break as they play five matches in five days starting on Sunday against Whittier College at 2 p.m. PT and 4 p.m. CT.
