Game Recap: Softball |

Softball splits Sunday doubleheader at Rhodes

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Hannah Wilson and Maggie Barker collected two hits in the second game as the Tigers took the last game in the series 6-3, in softball action on Saturday afternoon in Memphis, Tenn. against Rhodes College. 

In the second game, the Lynx scored a run first in the bottom of the second, but Sewanee immediately answered in the top of the third. 

Wilson got it started as she hit her second collegiate home run to start the inning. Abbie Buckner reached on a walk and Maggie Barker collected a single to get on base. Christian Cain collected her third double of the year, tallying two RBIs and sending Bucker and Barker home for a 3-1 Sewanee lead. 

Reagen Huskey induced a quick inning in the bottom of the third to win the inning for the Tigers, collecting outs on a popout, a tag out at second off an attempt to steal, and a swinging strikeout. 

The Tigers were not done as Ansley Giffin started the top of the fourth inning with a double. Kaylie Smith then reached first on an error while Griffin went to third, and both advanced another base off another error, collecting the Tiger's fourth run of the day. Smith then stole home off another Lynx error for a 5-1 game. 

In the top of the fifth, the Tigers collected their final run of the series as Emith Litchfield stole home for a 6-1 game. In the bottom of the third, Rhodes collected another run before they stranded one off a ground out into a double play, from Bucker in the six hole, to Grace Black at second, to Cain at first, to end the inning. The Lynx collected one more run in the bottom of the sixth, but were unable to recover as Sewanee took the final game of the series, 6-3. 

Cain and Wilson were tied with seven putouts a piece at catcher and first base respectively. Buckner led with three assists, while Barker and Black followed with two apiece.

Huskey collected six strikeouts for her career high in the second game for the win. 

In the first game, Sewanee drove in a run in the top of the first two innings, but a big inning from the Lynx in the bottom of the fifth secured the game two win for Rhodes, 6-2. 

Wilson collected the first run of the day off an error from Rhodes in the first, and Zoe Crockett sent Eve Bournias home in the top of the second as she grounded out to the pitcher. 

Bournias collected two hits and Wilson recorded one as Sewanee registered only three hits in the first game of the day. Buckner and Crockett each tallied an RBI. At first base, Giffin posted seven putouts and from pitcher and short-stop, Bucker registered three and Black followed with two.
