Women's lacrosse collects road win over Transylvania

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sally Herrington recorded four goals and four assists and Raleigh Cooper tallied four goals and an assist as Sewanee women's lacrosse action at Transylvania on Saturday morning. 

The Tigers opened the game with a three-goal run from three players. Herrington connected with Cooper for the first goal, Caroline Harlick collected the second, and Morgan Boylan posted the third with an assist from Harlick. 

Transylvania got on the board with a goal from Charlotte Green to end the first period. 

Sewanee started the second period in a similar fashion to the first, with a three-goal unanswered run, and Cooper and Herrington connected for the first goal of the period. Herrington tallied the second of the period from Claire Saverino off a caused turnover from Sally Whitehead. Erika Bolcar recorded Sewanee's sixth goal of the game. 

The Pioneers collected another goal off the draw control, but Herrington tallied another for the Tigers. 

Transylvania tallied two back-to-back goals and this time, Cooper answered for the Tigers for an 8-4 lead going into halftime. 

Both teams traded off runs in the third period, Transylvania started with two runs, but Sewanee immediately answered with two goals of their own from Claire Dillard and Bolcar. The Pioneers then collected three unanswered goals to get within one of the Tigers, but Sewanee again recorded three back-to-back goals from Brooke Sigmon, Harlick, and Cooper to close out the third period. 

Charlotte Green connected on a free position goal for Transylvania to open the fourth quarter. 

A caused turnover from Alexa Berg led to a goal from Elizabeth Muller with an assist from Herrington. Herrington won the resulting draw control and found the back of the net for a five-goal lead. 

Muller posted her second goal of the game to build the Tigers lead. Bolcar tallied Sewanee's last goal of the game for a seven-goal lead. 

Transylvania collected a man-down goal to cut Sewaee's lead to six. 

Herrington collected six draw-control wins, four caused turnovers, and two ground balls to round out her day. Dillard, Sigmon, and Bolcar tallied two draw controls each. Dillard led Sewanee in ground balls with three, she also forced two caused turnovers.  

Sewanee travels to Louisville, Ky. to face Spalding, tomorrow, March 3. They then return home for a six-game home stand.
