th-ranked Sewanee picked up one doubles win but
Sarah Livingston dropped the deciding match in a third-set tiebreaker in a 5-4 loss for the Tigers against 13
th-ranked Babson College in women's tennis action Thursday in Los Angeles, Calif.
Sewanee (5-6) ended its Spring Break trip 3-3 overall, 2-3 against ranked opponents, with two of the losses to teams ranked in the Top 3 nationally, all in the last seven days.
The Beavers (4-0) won two of the three doubles outings, including Elena Kiett and Laetitia Rizk defeating Nowak and Congeni, 8-6, at No. 3 and Matia Cristiani and Olivia Soffer outlasting
Katherine Petty and
Brooke Despriet, 7-4, in the tiebreaker at No. 1. The Tigers' lone win in doubles came via Carpenter and Livingston's 8-6 victory at No. 2 versus Adele Fernandez and Chaniel Soffer.
Cristiani recorded a 6-1, 6-0, singles win against Despriet at No. 2, but Congeni and Nowak helped the Tigers even the match at three points apiece. Nowak posted a 6-2, 7-6 (1), triumph at No. 6 over Juliette Moschella and Congeni collected a 6-2, 6-3, victory at No. 5 against Mariana Campos.
Carpenter put the Tigers ahead briefly with a 7-5, 6-2, win at No. 3 over Rizk, but Olivia Soffer defeated Petty, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, at No. 4.
Livingston fought back from a set down to even the match and took the third set to a tiebreaker before falling, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (4), to Chaniel Soffer.
Sewanee returns to action at home against 34
th-ranked Colby College on Monday, March 25.
