Tiger men start fast en route to 8-1 win versus Vassar

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Eleventh-ranked Sewanee swept the doubles matches for the second straight day and posted victories in five of the six singles in an 8-1 victory over 35th-ranked Vassar College in men's tennis action Sunday at Palisades Tennis Club in Newport Beach, Calif.
 
The Tigers (5-2) have won three straight outings since dropping their first two matches in the ITA National Indoor Championships.
 
Andre-Remi Jakobi and Peyton Erck defeated Fernando Bauermeister and Henry Zhang, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles before Gil Weston and Talman Ramsey won by the same score at No. 3 against Pedro Cattaruzzi and Eugene Lee. Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund claimed an 8-6 victory over Ethan Mantell and Nolan Kubiak at No. 1.
 
Lee posted the only point for Vassar with a 6-4, 6-2, win at No. 2 singles versus Erck, but Theron defeated Jay Wong, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 and Henry Hyden recorded the deciding point with a 6-4, 6-4, triumph at No. 6 against Arnav Agostinho.
 
Wicklund collected a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, decision over Kubiak at No. 4 while Ramsey claimed a 6-3, 7-6 (4), victory at No. 3 against Benjamin Almquist. Weston won the final match on the court in a super tiebreaker versus Zhang, 3-6, 7-5, 10-6.
 
Sewanee faces fourth-ranked Case Western Reserve on Monday at 6:30 p.m. CT in Claremont, Calif.
