Tigers fall to No. 2 University of Chicago

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee women's tennis team opened the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) DIII National Indoor Team Championships on Friday afternoon. No. 12 Sewanee faced No. 2 the University of Chicago as they fell, 1-6.

A rematch of the semifinals of the Fall ITA Cup took place at No. 1 doubles. In the fall, Brooke Despriet and Katherine Petty fell to Lin and Mikos of the University of Chicago, 6-2, 6-0. However, today the Tigers came out on top as they defeated the No. 1 doubles team in the nation in a tie-breaker, 8-6 for a 7-5 win. 

With Division I scoring, the University of Chicago came away with the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles. 

In singles, Ansley Carpenter secured a 6-4, 6-1 win at the number four spot to secure a point for Sewanee. The Tigers were unable to secure any additional points as they fell in the rest of the singles matches. 

Sewanee will compete against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology tomorrow, at 9 a.m. ET.
