Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Sewanee falls in double overtime to Oglethorpe, 97-92

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Tigers suffered a heartbreaking loss in double-overtime to Oglethorpe in Atlanta, Ga. on Friday night, 92-97.

The Tigers and Petrels played a tight game up until the last seconds, as Oglethorpe had the largest lead of the game with 5:21 on the clock in the second quarter, up by 10.

Olivia Falvey hit a three with six seconds left on the clock in regulation to put the Tigers up by two, but a team technical sent Oglethrope to the line for two free throws and the following possession. Both free throws from the technical were missed by Oglethorpe, but they got the ball back. With two seconds left, the Petrels drew a foul that sent Malia Melton to the line for two more attempts to tie the score, and she connected on both, sending the game into overtime.

Kayla Antoine scored six of Sewanee's eight points in the first overtime. The Petrels scored another last-minute bucket with six seconds on the clock to send the game into the second overtime.

Sewanee ran out of steam in the second overtime as the Petrels scored six unanswered points in the first two and a half minutes. Antoine registered the first points of the period off a jumper in the paint and then tallied two more just 20 seconds later. A free throw from Faith Humphrey and another basket from Antoine got the Tigers within two, but a three from Morgan Skipper and two more free throws put the Petrels' lead back to seven with seven seconds left. Shay Conn posted a last-second layup, but Oglethorpe came out on top, 97-95.

Five Sewanee players were on the court for over 39 minutes of action.

Antoine was a huge factor in keeping Sewanee in the game as she posted 12 points and three rebounds in overtime. Olivia Falvey and Conn both netted a basket a piece and Humphrey collected one for the Tigers' only other points in overtime. Humphrey also posted four rebounds, two steals, and an assist in extra time.

Sewanee had three in double digits, and Antoine collected her 12th double-double of the season with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Falvey recorded her third game in a row collecting over 20 points. She collected 22 points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block. Lilly Phillips posted her season-best 18 points off of six threes.

The Tigers travel to Rome, Ga. on Sunday to face Berry at Noon CT. They then play their last regular season game against Centre on the road on February, 14 at 4 p.m. CT.
