Andre-Remi Jakobi all won at the bottom three spots in singles in a 4-3 victory over 15
th-in men's tennis action Saturday at the Charlotte Guerry Indoor Courts.
The Phoenix posted a pair of doubles wins to take the team point, with Julian Parada and Vitor Ferreira claiming a 7-5 win at No. 1 against Quin Wicklund and Weston and Daniel Wessels and German Suarez outlasting
Peyton Erck and Jakobi, 9-7, in the tiebreaker at No. 2.
Liam Selvido and
Talman Ramsey recorded a 9-7 victory in a tiebreaker for the Tigers at No. 3 versus Dan Slapnik Trost and Adrijan Hrzic.
Wicklund evened the match with a 6-0, 6-4, win at No. 2 singles against Hrzic, but Cumberland netted two singles victories for a 3-1 edge in the match. Ferriera defeated Erick, 5-7, 7-6, 10-7, at No. 1 before Parada bested Ramsey at No. 3, 7-5, 6-4.
The bottom of the lineup delivered for the Tigers, though, starting with Weston, who came from behind in a 2-6, 6-4, 10-2, triumph at No. 4 versus Paul-Daniel Meyer. Hyden was next with a 6-1, 6-4, win over Suarez at No. 5 and Jakobi recorded the final point with a 6-4, 7-5, victory against Fernando Flores at No. 6.
Sewanee was set to face UT Southern later Saturday evening as part of the Tiger Den Invitational.
