Track and Field hosts Mountain Goat Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee track and field teams opened their indoor season with strong performances, highlighted by school-record achievements, personal bests, and top finishes. The Tigers placed fourth in the women's team standings and third in the men's standings.

In the women's pole vault, Wrenna Morris tied the school record with a first-place height of 2.90m, while freshman Emory Rhodes made an impressive debut, vaulting 2.75m to claim a spot as the fifth-best mark in Sewanee history. Grace Potter, in her first collegiate meet, cleared 1.33m in the high jump to secure second place. 

In the women's throws, Kamilla Haidaienko had a standout performance in the weight throw, achieving a personal best of 11.25m to place fourth and move into fourth all-time in Sewanee's record books. She also earned seventh in the shot put with a throw of 9.48m.

On the men's side, the Tigers dominated the weight throw, with Gavin Potter leading the way at 11.68m for third place. He was followed by Stevie Mack (11.50m), Lukus White (11.19m), and Brayden Owens (11.16m) in fourth through sixth. White also had a notable performance in the shot put, placing fifth with a throw of 12.27m, good for ninth in Sewanee's record books.
Jenkins Darbney added a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.30m.

In the women's 55-meter hurdles, Emory Rhodes and Jocelyn Covaney claimed second and third, clocking times of 9.60 and 9.80, respectively. Journey Morrison impressed in the 55-meter dash, running a 7.73 to place sixth and move to fourth all-time in Sewanee history. Covaney also recorded a personal best in the hurdles with a time of 8.31.

For the men, Jacob Heilpern placed fourth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.86, while James Holmes achieved a personal best of 6.98 to take seventh. In the men's one-mile run, Chase Cavitch crossed the line first with a time of 4:54.97, followed closely by Declan Oberlies in second at 4:56.48. Henry Smith rounded out the running events with a fourth-place finish in the 600 meters, clocking a time of 1:38.28.

Sewanee's track and field teams will resume competition in January as they travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the KMS Invitational, hosted by Samford on the 19th.
