Volleyball falls to Berry on the road

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Emma Meyer led the Sewanee offense with 19 assists, adding nine digs and two kills, but the Tigers fell to Berry College in three sets on Saturday morning in volleyball action.

Sewanee came out strong in the first set, hitting .361 as a team with 14 kills and just one error. The Tigers battled to a 23-23 tie, but Berry claimed the set with two consecutive points, edging Sewanee 25-23.

In the second set, Berry started fast with an 8-0 run, followed by a 7-0 run that gave them a commanding lead. Sewanee responded with a 7-0 run of their own, but it came too late as Berry took the set 25-16.

Berry opened the third set with another early 6-0 run. Sewanee fought back with an 8-3 run to close the gap to 12-11. However, the Vikings closed out the match with an 8-0 run, aided by three Sewanee errors, three kills, and two aces, winning the set 25-17.

Other contributors for Sewanee included Anna Ellison, who tallied five kills and three blocks, and Charlotte Lee, who posted three kills with a .500 hitting percentage. Defensively, Sophia Caruso led the team with 15 digs.

Nicole Radford recorded three aces and four kills, while Suna Merkler posted nine kills and added a block assist.

Sewanee will continue conference play on Sunday, traveling to Oglethorpe for a noon ET/11 a.m. CT matchup.
