Tigers paced by freshman at Mountain Goat Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Freshman Elizabeth Cook finished first for the Sewanee women, and freshman Parker Tallman and Declan Overlies finished one and two for the men in cross country action Saturday in Sewanee, Tenn. at the Mountain Goat Invitational as the women took home first place in the meet while the men finished second.

Cook finished the 5k course in 21:15.5 to lead the competition while junior Allison Haworth and sophomore Abigail Armstrong posted times of 21:35.1 and 21:40.1 to finish third and fifth respectively. Sewanee had a slu of runners place back-to-back from seventh to 10th place, led by Senior Lou Bullock with a time of 22:05.4. Junior Sam Ude, sophomore Eleanor Graham, and freshman CeCe Cherry followed running times of 22:23.8, 22:41.2, and 22:56.0 respectively.

Sewanee finished first with 22 points ahead of Northeast Alabama in second with 57 points, and Gadsen State with 58 points.

Sewanee men placed back-to-back for first and second as Tallman crossed first in the 6400m race with a time of 22:27.4 followed by freshman Declan Oberlies in second with a time of 22:56.3. Junior Sam Leonard finished sixth with a time of 23:21.9 followed by a freshman duo of Chase Cavitch and Henry Zanone who finished 12th and 17th respectively with times of 23:58.3 and 25:56.6.

The Tigers finished second just six points behind Northeast Alabama, who took home first.

Sewanee will travel to Chattanooga for the UTC Invitational in East Ridge, Tenn. on October 18.
